Obituary for Wilma Jean Snyder

Wilma Jean Cantrell Snyder of Miller, Missouri, age 78, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 26th, 1939 in Miller, Missouri to Winfred Vincent and Ruth Nadine Lamb Cantrell.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Avon Snyder on February 15, 1964 and they were married for 49 years until Avon’s death in 2013. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Barbara Garton.

Wilma contracted polio at the age of 14 and had to overcome many challenges in her life, but did it with grace, dignity and determination. She never gave up the fight and loved life to the fullest, never complaining about her plight. Wilma enjoyed crafting, puzzles, NASCAR, her fish pond and anything related to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved people and was a faithful servant of Christ. She was a lifelong member of Miller United Methodist Church. She served as bookkeeper for her church, for the Miller Senior Citizens and for the Miller Fabulous Fifties Reunion organizations.

Left to honor and remember her love are her son David and Keri Snyder of Miller, MO and their children, Amanda Leach & Jacob of Miller, Jack & Hannah Snyder of Miller, Jason Snyder and Jonathan Snyder of the home; her daughter, Mary Snyder Duff and Scott of Springfield, MO and their children, Hannah Duff of Nashville, TN, William Duff and Amelia Duff of the home; her great grandchildren Emery, Ezekiel and Elam Leach and Ella Mae Snyder. She is also survived by her sister Pat and Jerry Hood of Mt. Vernon, MO, her brother in law Gary Garton of Holt, MO, brother in law Wesely Snyder of Miller, MO, sister in law Rosella White of Clever, MO, and sister in law Lora Wilson of Lockwood, MO. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews who she thought the world of and a special cousin Kenneth Wolf and his wife Carol.

Visitation, under the direction of Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, in Miller, Missouri, will be held at Miller First Baptist Church on Thursday, February 15th at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Reverend Scotty Killingsworth. Burial will follow at the Sycamore Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Dr. William Moore and Angela Powers for the excellent care over the years. We are indebted to the nurses and staff of Mercy 6B for their love and care over the last few days, with a special thank you to the compassion by her nurse named Alyssa.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can made to the Mercy Neuroscience Nurse Education Fund or Miller United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice, in care of the funeral home.
