Obituary for Wan Stanton Hope

Wan Stanton Hope, age 101, of Miller, Missouri, passed away at 8:37 a.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born January 16, 1916, in Miller, Missouri, the son of Nealy Hope.
Wan was a 1934 graduate of Miller High School and lived most of his life in the Miller area. He was an instructor for the Signal Corps at Camp Crowder in Neosho, Missouri, and then was stationed in Seattle, Washington, serving as a corporal with the United States Army for the remainder of his four year tour of duty during World War II.
After the service he worked as an Audio Engineer for the KWTO radio station in Springfield, Missouri, for 40 years. The highlight of his career was being the sound engineer for the Ozark Jubilee, which at that time was the only network country music variety show on TV, staring Red Foley. He was a very active member of the Onward Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school.
On August 6, 1941, he married Golda Lucille Hunt, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2005.
Wan is survived by his two sons, Wanford Hope and his wife, Karen, and Galen Hope and his wife, Marsha, all of Miller; one brother-in-law, Arvel Hunt of Springfield, Missouri; two granddaughters, Melissa Engle and her husband, Howard, of Abilene, Kansas and Karena Edelman and her husband, Nicholas, of Camdenton, Missouri; one grandson, Kevin Hope and his wife, Penny, of Wichita, Kansas; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; five great-great grandchildren; two step grandsons; three step great-grandchildren; nine step great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His mother, Nealy, wife, Golda, son, Charles Hope, great grandson, Harley Viar, great-great granddaughter, Kate Hope Clark, and two step great-great grandsons, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2107, at the Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, in Miller. Burial will follow at the Misemer Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be payable to the Salvation Army, in care of the funeral home.
