Obituary for David Paul Meirick

David P. Meirick, 66, of Independence, Missouri, left his loving family and friends on August 28, 2019, following a brief illness at St. Luke's Hospice House, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dave was born June 30, 1953. He was the baby of eight children born to Walter and Agnes Rose (Miller) Meirick. He grew up in the Mt. Vernon and Pierce City, Missouri areas.

He is survived by his wife, of 35 years, Judy Landoll Meirick and daughter Amy Renay Meirick, both of the home, as well as stepson, Aaron M. Palmer, and two grandsons, Bretton and Corbin Palmer of Monett, Missouri. Other survivors include siblings Don (wife Holly) Meirick of Mt. Vernon, Carolyn Spradling of Springfield, Kaye (husband Walter) Woods of Stotts City, Herb (wife Klista) Meirick, and Jane (husband Glenn) all of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Also, two sisters-in-law, Joannie Meirick of Frisco, Colorado and Linda Meirick of Lebanon, Missouri, as well as many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dave was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, who will be dearly missed. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army severing during the Vietnam era. He spent 20 years as a hard-working letter carrier for the USPS in Pierce City, Mt. Vernon, and Springfield branches where he retired in 2012. Prior to this, he owned his own business, Dyna Source Industries in Mt.Vernon.

He fondly remembered his days as a basketball player for the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers where he was better known as "MOOSE" and a member of the class of 1971. Dave was also a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan who rarely missed watching a game. He also loved reminiscing about his days coaching his daughter Amy and the times they spent picking walnuts, sledding down the Monett Park Hill, and playing board games.

On June 19, 2017, Dave fell backwards down ten stairs onto a concrete landing and suffered a traumatic brain injury. At that time, we were told he had "no chance". It was a long and trial-filled road, but through his determination, persistence, and hard work, he bounced back and we were thankful to have the time we had with him these last two years.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Agnes, two brothers, Joseph and Bob Meirick and brother-in-law, Mart Spradling.

A visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Pierce City, Missouri.
